Volunteer Opportunities

Below are all of the volunteer opportunities available at SGSM network. If you are interested in volunteering in one of these areas, please download the volunteer form and return it to the SGSM office. Driver- Ready, Set, Go Program

Our transportation program serves approximately 250 residents annually. Ready, Set, Go matches seniors with volunteer drivers who take them to the doctor. Volunteer responsibilities include calling Rider the day before appointment, picking up the Rider, waiting with them during the appointment, and a dropping the Rider off at their house. Rides are only given Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Volunteers are asked to provide a ride once a month. Download Volunteer Form.

Transportation Coordinator- Ready, Set, Go Program

We are looking for a dedicated individual to volunteer four to five hours a week. The volunteer would find rides for seniors who need to go to medical appointments. They would work with 75 volunteer drivers to match them with seniors needing rides on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Match rides from the comfort of your own home!

Office / Administrative Assistant

We are looking for personable, passionate volunteers committed to serving our elder population. Volunteer responsibilities include administrative work, such as answering phones, and filing. Download Volunteer Form.

Home Adaptation Volunteer- Job Squad

Our Job Squad program enables older adults to live independently and safely in their homes for as long as possible. Volunteer responsibilities include scheduling a service appointment with senior homeowner, completing requested home repair service, and reporting back to Housing Coordinator when service is completed. Potential jobs include gutter cleaning, trimming bushes, light dusting, or home weatherization. Volunteers are asked to serve for 1-4 hours a month. Download Volunteer Form.

Registration Volunteer- Job Squad

Our Job Squad program enables older adults to live independently and safely in their homes for as long as possible. Volunteer responsibilities include performing home visits to senior homeowners requesting first time service, explaining the program via Guidelines for Homeowners form, assisting senior homeowners to fill out Registration form, explaining Release form to senior homeowners and having homeowners sign Report back to Housing Coordinator. Hours per week may vary depending on number of requesting homeowners. Download Volunteer Form.

Social Work Intern

We are looking for creative and dedicated interns interested in case management or program development. We accept MSW students, preferably in their concentration year, for one or two semester internships. Our three social workers, all MSW’s, work with students and their course loads to develop learning agreements that will reflect optimum opportunities for the students and maximize their contribution to our agency. In the past students have done everything from direct client work to needs assessments, policy review and policy and program development.

Friendly Visiting Volunteer – Friendly Connections

Friendly Connections is a program developed to prevent isolation and loneliness within the senior population. Volunteer responsibilities include writing letters, making phone calls, or visiting someone at their home. Hours per week may vary depending on which form of Connection you are interested in serving.Download Volunteer Form.

Newsletter Assembler –SGSM Network News

The SGSM Network provides bi-monthly newsletters that are sent out to all older adults in our service areas. This newsletter provides new ministry updates, events, and programs. Volunteer responsibilities include arriving on time to newsletter site, labeling and or sealing newsletters, counting newsletters and giving numbers to Newsletter Coordinator, and separating newsletters by zip codes starting with 630, 631, 633, and other. This volunteer position should take 1-2 hours per month.Download Volunteer Form.

Newsletter Coordinator- SGSM Network News

The SGSM Network provides bi-monthly newsletters that are sent out to all older adults in our service areas. This newsletter provides ministry updates, events, and programs. Volunteer responsibilities include all aspects of the Newsletter Assembly description plus; filling out a bulk mailing form, delivering Newsletters to Downtown Post Office
(1720 Market St, St Louis, MO 63103), delivering bulk mailing form to bulk mail office and asking for a receipt. Receipt should be mailed to SGSM Network Office (2000 South 11th Street St. Louis, MO 63104).Download Volunteer Form.
