Event: Senior Living Options Fair

Date: Saturday, September 11, 2010 at St. John the Baptist at 4200 Delor from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Description: South Grand Senior Ministry, Bethesda Health Group and Preservation Management team up to bring you the Senior Living Options Fair September 11.
The Senior Living Options Fair will feature representatives from home health services, assistive technology providers, durable medical equipment retailers, senior centers, long term care facilities, independent living facilities, assistance animals, and many other businesses who serve older adults in the South St. Louis area. All older adults and caregivers are invited to attend and learn about the valuable resources and living options available to them in the community.

Event: Zumba Gold Dance-Fitness

Date: The class will be offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. starting Tuesday, September 14 until Thursday, December 16, 2010.  The Tuesday class will be held in the St. Matthias gymnasium (796 Buckley Rd.); the Thursday class will take place at St. John the Baptist fine arts building (4200 Delor). 
Description: Do you miss the days of dancing with your favorite dance partner?  Do you want to learn a new style of dance that does not require a partner?  South Grand Senior Ministry is pleased to offer “Zumba Gold.”  Zumba is a fusion of Latin and other international music combined with easy to follow dance-fitness moves.  It is modified for older adults, so don’t be afraid to try it out, even those of you who have never exercised before!  Zumba creates a dynamic and a moderate cardiovascular and toning workout.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our summer introduction classes!  We appreciate you completing our surveys to help guide us in creating this fun and affordable program.  Call Amy LeMieux at (314) 664-9700 to learn more and sign up for Zumba Gold this autumn.
Registration: Zumba Gold punch cards will be available to purchase at the beginning or end of each class, and can be used wherever Brandie Martine is the instructor.  Punch cards will cost $30 (this equals to $3 per class for 10 classes).  Individual classes will cost $4 at the door for each class.  Classes can be paid for by cash, or by check made out to Brandie Martine.

Event: Stone Hill Winery Trip

Date: Tuesday, October 5, 2010 9am-4pm

Description:Hop aboard a full-size coach and enjoy a cool and luxurious ride to Stone Hill Winery in historic Hermann on Tuesday, October 5, 2010.  Departing at 9 a.m. from St. Mark Catholic Church at 8300 Morganford Road, we will arrive at for a tour of Stone Hill’s cellars, grounds, and enjoy a free wine tasting and a three-course gourmet lunch served at the winery.  We will return to St. Mark no later than 4 p.m. 

Registration: Please RSVP by Friday, October 1 by calling Amy LeMieux at (314) 664-9700.  It is $33.18 per person to enjoy this wonderful day at Missouri’s oldest and most awarded winery.

Event: Free Health Workshop Series Continues

Date: September 16 & October 21 at St. Matthias (796 Buckley Road) from 10:30-11:30 AM in the Multi- Purpose Room.  

Description: Learn more about how what you eat affects your health and find out what you can do to improve it!
South County Senior Ministry has partnered with Nepute Chiropractic to provide a series of free health workshops on the 3rd Thursday of the month at St. Matthias (796 Buckley Road) from 10:30-11:30 AM in the Multi-Purpose Room.  
The September workshop will be on Thursday, September 16th, and is entitled “Eat Well, Move Well, Live Well: Practical tips to improving health and adding years to your life.”  The October workshop will be on Thursday, October 21st, and is entitled “Eat to Stay Young.”

ONGOING PROJECTS

Announcement:  Free Yardwork Available

Description: Fall is approaching and so is the fall yardwork!  South County Senior Ministry is currently scheduling groups for fall yardwork blitzes including leaf raking and gutter cleaning for older adult homeowners age 65 and up.  This is a great family friendly volunteer opportunity or simply an opportunity for a group of friends to serve older adults in their community.
